Calling All Artists!
Calling All Local Artists!
Picture this… you’re walking along a pristine, beautiful beach. The air smells briny and it relaxes you as you breathe deeply. All of a sudden, you trip.
It’s a garbage bag full of trash.
Beneath it, is another… and as far as you can see… more trash bags. Pictured another way, 18 billion pounds of plastic trash winds up in our oceans each year. To put that in perspective, it’s enough trash to cover every foot of coastline around the world with five full trash bags of plastic… compounding every year.
Yikes.
That’s why we are inviting all local Alberta artists to submit their masterpieces to our newly founded Sage Hill Bottle Depot art gallery!
If you’ve ever visited our location before, you’ll know that we take a very unique approach to a recycling facility. We see ourselves as a customer service based company who just so happens to recycle empty beverage containers.
We are proud to announce our latest initiative – a gallery displaying various artworks from talented, local artists. Why are we doing this?
We know that art is powerful.
According to a neurobiologist at University College London, simply viewing a piece of art triggers the same surge of dopamine in the area of the brain that registers love. Art gives us the ability to better understand ourselves, each other, and our environment.
Art lets us focus on positive experiences, whether real or imagined, and can help lower stress. And we all know that sometimes running your errands, like recycling your empty bottles, can be stressful – especially with tired kiddos in tow.
Our gallery will showcase art that depicts our current state as a planet, what can be done, and where we could go if we all work hard together. We hope that the images we showcase will make waiting for your counter more exciting and also give you something to think about!
If you, or someone you know, has art that they wish to submit to our gallery, they can fill out the application form right here. For more information about the gallery, or to ask any questions you may have about the application process, please follow us on Facebook and send us a message!
